Motivation is Never Enough »

It’s that time of year again. The time when we look forward to the new year and think about what we hope to accomplish. For most of us, the goals we set require some effort to complete whether that effort be purely mental, physical or a little bit of both. That’s where motivation and discipline come in.

I feel like I read so many blog posts on how to be motivated and not enough on how to be disciplined. The reality is that anything you want to build in life, whether its a relationship or a business involves the balance between motivation and discipline, with discipline, in my opinion, being the harder of the two to utilize. With that being said, in the spirit of the new beginnings, I offer you insight into how to find motivation to reach your goals and how to actually achieve them.

Motivation

We’ll start with motivation, because let’s face it if you aren’t in any way slightly motivated to accomplish what you hope to accomplish you have a very difficult road ahead. There are two types of motivation intrinsic, coming from you, and extrinsic, coming from the world around you. Knowing the difference between the two can help you not just be motivated but stay motivated.

Intrinsic Motivation

When I think of intrinsic motivation I think of motivation that comes from the heart. This is the type of inspiration that is specific to each individual person and based off of your values, your likes and your dislikes. It is the most important of the two…
